We bring you quick, useful and fun cooking inspiration 3 days a week from places we like from around the web, in 3 minutes or less.

Let’s get to it, clock’s tickin’!

Everyday Recipes

  • I love making some sort of stir fry for weeknight dinner. Stir fry recipes tend to be quick and easy and, for whatever reason, my kids tend to eat them. Here’s a beef and broccoli stir fry and a chicken, asparagus and cashew stir fry. These recipes call for some atypical pantry items, but having them on hand is worth it when it comes time to whip up quick, flavorful meals.

  • Speaking of easy and flavorful, shrimp and grits is a regular in our rotation. The entire meal doesn’t take much longer than it takes to boil your grits. But once all together, it always ends up feeling like something special. There are about a million ways to make it, but the recipe I shared, with cheddar grits and ample bacon, is my go-to.

Project Time

  • I was digging through my pantry yesterday and found these tart molds, which I had bought to make pasteis de nata, or Portuguese custard tarts. It reminded me to make them again, and suggest that you give them a try. These tarts have a flaky crust, and sweet custard filling that’s a little be caramelized on top. They’re extra delicious when they’re still just a touch warm.

Something Fun (or Interesting)

  • Thinking about pasteis de nata had me reminiscing about my honeymoon in Portugal where we had them from the cafe Pasteis de Belem, which claims to have the original recipe. Here’s a video that will give you more than you want to know about this cafe and the authentic tarts they make. It’ll probably end up making you want to go to Portugal, so be warned.
