Call of the wild

We bring you quick, useful and fun cooking inspiration each day from places we like from around the web, in 3 minutes or less.

Let’s get to it, clock’s tickin’!

Everyday Recipes

  • Here’s a recipe that rewards a decently stocked pantry. One Pan Gnocchi with Chorizo from Food 52 calls for the packaged gnocchi you can buy at most stores and adds in some canned artichoke hearts. They use fresh Chorizo, but I’m guessing dried would work well too, as well as brussels sprouts, which I love but will skip if I’m in a hurry.

  • I first fell in love with Korean food when I was a studying in China. There was a Korean restaurant on campus and a dish called Ttekbokki (pronounced Duck bokee) was my absolute favorite. We make it all the time now, usually just with a quick sauce that’s mostly thinned out gojuchang and a few vegetables, but this recipe from Maanchi is the real deal. She’s also provided a great beginners guide to Korean cooking if you’re interested. And finally, if you happen to have a Trader Joes nearby they’re packaged version is totally serviceable.

Project Time

  • While the idea of wild boar ragu may sound exotic here in the US and evocative of some fancy northern italian restaurant it’s an ingredient that’s probably not that hard to find as the boar population in the southern US explodes. If you can get your hands on some it’s worth treating it right, and this recipe from Andrew Zimmern does just that. Happy hunting - at your butcher shop … or if you go all the way and bag one yourself give us a call to share some extra!

Something Fun (or Interesting)

  • Here’s one that’s just plain silly. Joshua Weissman makes 30 different variants on a burger and has a panel of tasters help him pick a winner.
