Pork + Apples + Onions + Pork ...

Friday - Oct 27, 2023

We bring you quick, useful and fun cooking inspiration each day from places we like from around the web, in 3 minutes or less.

Let’s get to it, clock’s tickin’!

Everyday Recipes

  • Fall weekend one pot cooking feels like a good time to go Martha (Stewart). This recipe for Pork Chops with Apples and Onions seems classic and a little boring in a totally good way. Next time I need to get something done relatively fast that everyone will eat (even if they’re shoving the offending non meat elements to the side of the plate) this is definitely in the running.

  • Here’s another entry in the sounds fancy but it’s not category. The folks at Saveur are calling this a Hot Onion Souffle, but if you remove the French accoutrement it’s a warmed up onion dip… and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Worth trying next time you have people coming over and need to make something that looks and tastes good fast.

Project Time

  • For a few years I had a farmer that I bought meat from who smoked his own ham and then sold it in manageable sized chunks. It was awesome, and when he stopped coming to the market (amidst rumors of selling meat he’d bought from elsewhere which was a cardinal sin at the time) I was cast into the wilderness of eating ham that I don’t really like. Not sure I’m quite ready to tackle this - but for those who are the Ultimate Double Smoked Ham from Meathead at AmazingRibs looks to be a great starting point to make your own tradition. Just make sure you have friends to help you take it down!

Something Fun (or Interesting)

  • For me, this one is both fun and interesting (and maybe a little long). Kenji takes us to his local Japanese grocery store and explains what everything is. While my biggest takeaway is that his local store in Seattle is way better than mine, I still learned a ton and will do a much better job shopping next time I go to load up.
