We bring you quick, useful and fun cooking inspiration 3 days a week from places we like from around the web, in 3 minutes or less. Remember you can get access to all the recipes we share through our database by referring a friend via your link below.
Let’s get to it, clock’s tickin’!
Everyday Recipes (Quick Holiday Cookie Edition)
My wife is the primary baker in our household, so I asked her what she thought for this one:
These peanut butter cookies, apparently properly know as Peanut Butter Blossoms - which I only learned as I wrote this down - always show up this time of year at my house. She uses butter instead of shortening. They’re good. Enjoy!
She also makes these Ginger Cookies, which are great and never stick around long enough to give anyone as a gift.
Finally, these Seven Layer Cookies and these Rainbow Sprinkle Cookies are on her list to try next time the urge to branch out strikes.
Project Time
A cocktail that takes 2 days to make is clearly a project. This is an all out, made from scratch Egg Nog for your holiday party. I have not yet made this, and have to admit that I am both slightly intimidated AND am not sure I have enough friends to consume it - but this is from Michael Ruhlman, who is also putting out a Cocktail version of his book Ratios (pre-order here) - so I’m confident it’ll reward the effort.
You should also check out the original Ratios, for food, to find lots of great tricks for breaking away from recipes by learning a few basic… you guessed it, ratios.
Something Fun (or Interesting)
So how did eggnog become a Christmas thing? I’ll admit that having not grown up with it I thought the whole thing was pretty weird… until I tried it and now find myself drinking at least a gallon (oh god, did I really say that out loud here) each holiday season 🙂
Turns out eggnog tastes pretty good with a little booze mixed in, but that still doesn’t answer my question. Thankfully this article does, at length:
Let us know what you tried (just reply)! More soon.
