Woop Woop Soup!

We bring you quick, useful and fun cooking inspiration each day from places we like from around the web, in 3 minutes or less.

Let’s get to it, clock’s tickin’!

Everyday Recipes

  • Salade Lyonnaise is one of the greatest salads there is. The mixture of bitter greens, warm runny egg, bacon chunks and vinaigrette, is magical. Smitten Kitchen has a dish inspired by Salade Lyonnaise, Potatoes with Soft Eggs and Bacon Vinaigrette. The addition of potatoes and blue cheese make it a little more substantial than your typical Salade Lyonnaise, and would make a fine option as a full meal.

  • It’s soup season! Let’s celebrate with this Wild Mushroom and Barley Soup from the famous Daniel Boulud. Like most things from Daniel Boulud, it’s refined and delicious; unlike most things from Daniel Boulud (including yesterday’s Boulud recipe), it’s not particularly complicated or difficult.

Project Time

  • If you’re interested in learning how to make hand pulled noodles, you can give it a whirl with this Spicy Hand Pulled Biang Biang Noodles recipe from Tracy Chang via The James Beard Foundation’s website. Of course, if you just want to buy noodles, but make the braised pork and vinegar sauce from Tracy Chang’s recipe, I’m sure you’ll find great results.

Something Fun (or Interesting)

  • Sohla and Ham El-Waylly are chefs who happen to be a married couple. I came across this video series from NYT Cooking where they’re given secret ingredients and need to make a multi-course dinner in an hour. In observance of it being the week after Halloween, I’m sharing this episode where they received a bunch of candy as their secret ingredient. They ended up making some interesting dishes including Swedish Fish Glazed Mackerel, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Short Ribs. The video might be a little long, but it’s fun if you want to jump around, particularly to the end part as they taste the finished dishes.
